A Musical Journey (1992-2000)

1992-1994: Men of Honour

Men of Honour promo 1993

Founded in September 1992, MEN OF HONOUR was an in-your-face power trio from hell. The band was tight and energetic featuring extraordinary bassist/vocalist Gary Grace, and bombastic drummer Chuck Horst. In 1993, the band released the independent self-titled MEN OF HONOUR, a ten-song album engineered by Jim Ragus in the warehouse at M.P. Productions. For our last gig at Riverfest '94, guitarist Todd Hunt joined us onstage as a fourth member. The band was loud-n-proud and allowed me to get my ya-ya's out on the guitar. Gary Grace released a CD solo project that I had the pleasure of playing on (see the works page for details).

1994-2004: Acoustic Pagans

Acoustic Pagans promo 1997

In the winter of 1994, Jim Pagan and I formed a duo called ACOUSTIC PAGANS. The project was quite a departure from MEN OF HONOUR, relying on acoustic treatments of an eclectic assortment of songs ranging from the melodic neo-jazz of Acoustic Alchemy and the Rippingtons, to atmospheric renditions of artists such as Yes, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, and the Beatles. Jim's portastudio provided a platform to experiment with some of his original compositions. In 1998, we ventured into full-band mode adding drums and bass to round out the sound that many described as mystical and melodic. ACOUSTIC PAGANS performed in a wide array of venues including private corporate and country club engagements, special fund-raising events, and popular public concert and club stages. In late 2001, Jim and I started writing and recording together again. We released a 15-song all-original CD It's About Time.

ACOUSTIC PAGANS has featured: Jim Pagan - lead and backing Vocals, acoustic 6 and 12-string guitars, woodwinds, keyboards, sound efx ~ Jai Lambert - lead and backing vocals, acoustic and electric 6-string guitars, keyboards, electric bass ~ John Houser - Bass, Vocals ~ David Randels - Zendrum ~ Chuck Horst - drums, percussion, tuned wood blocks

The Acoustic Pagans: It's About Time CD released in 2003.

1999-2008: The GroanUps

The Groanups

The GroanUps was, at the time I played with them, a fabulous 9-piece outfit that had been packing clubs, ballrooms, statehouses, you name it, since 1982. The band had an enormous repertoire of music ranging from the stylistic uptown sounds of Chicago, Tower of Power, and Little Feat, to the tasty and soulful Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and Sam and Dave. The GroanUps featured veteran Arkansas musicians, combined with ultra-professional stage production and presentation. I played with the band for 9 years.

THE GROANUPS featured: Gio Bruno - Vocals, Percussion ~ Frank Cox - Guitar, Vocals, Ed Nicholson - Guitar, Vocals ~ Sterling Tucker - Guitar, Vocals ~ Jai Lambert - Guitar, Vocals ~ Richard Wise - Bass, Vocals ~ Andy Griebel - Keyboards, Sax ~ Antwon Stigger - Keyboards ~ Puddy Man - Keyboards, Vocals ~ B.J. Davis - Drums ~ Jeff Woodward - Trombone ~ Art Holiman - Trumpet ~ Matt Dickson - Sax, Vocals ~ Keni Reed - Sax, Flute, Vocals
