A Musical Journey (2009-Present)
2009: Paperkid The PAPERKID 'Reunion,' was Saturday, September 5th, 2009, @ Neumeier's Rib Room, Fort Smith. Hope you were there. It was the first time that 3 of the 4 original members (Randy Burden, Stephen Lane, and Jai Lambert) had appeared on stage together for over 22 years. We had close to 800 in attendance and helped raise over $7,000 for Developmental Wings! PAPERKID featured: Randy Burden - Vocals, Guitar ~ Jai Lambert - Guitar, Vocals ~ Stephen Lane - Drums, Percussion ~ James Jones - Electric Bass, Vocals ~ Bill Rebsamen - Keyboards Below is a link to a 20-minute teaser clip for the "Give Them Wings" benefit concert for autism held at Neumeier's Rib Room in Ft. Smith Arkansas on September 5th, 2009. The evening was supervised and shot by Bob Ketchum with up to five cameras. The main camera was a Sony UVW-100 analog Betacam located above the PA position taking a mono audio PA mix from the board. CAMS 2 & 3 were Sony PD-170's w/wide angle lens. During the Paperkid segment CAM 3 was hand-held for wild shots and two other MiniDV camcorders were positioned on tripods for cut-away shots. 2009-2010: Brothers With Different Mothers In early 2009, another version of BWDM emerged featuring a new rhythm section and horn section. This band featured Jimmy Powell doin' the "Spin the Jimmy" where we would literally start a 3 chord song and then go boldly into complete song improvisation with Jimmy singing (and playing drums) several songs back-to-back that could possibly be played using the same 3 chords and tempo. The band never had a clue where it was going and it was great! BROTHERS WITH DIFFERENT MOTHERS featured: Dan Waymack - Vocals ~ Jai Lambert - Guitar, Vocals ~ Nick Devlin - Guitar, Lap Steel, Vocals ~ Andy Griebel - Keyboards, Sax, Vocals ~ Mike Nelson - Electric Bass ~ Jimmy Powell - Drums and Percussion ~ Art Holiman - Trumpet ~ Jeff Woodward - Trombone, Guitars, Vocals ~ Scott Southern - Drums.
2010-Present: Michael Shipp Possibly the most talented 3-piece power trio to ever come out of Arkansas, MICHAEL SHIPP'S live show always delivers. Michael has worked with ZZ Top, Billy Bob Thornton and even produced a tune in the studio with fellow Arkansan, Johnny Cash. Also appeared in a couple of movies along the way, and loves doing voiceovers and spokesperson duties in commercials. Michael's Adventures of Roosterboy CD (available on ITunes) has sold in over 21 countries worldwide. New CD due out soon co-produced with Billy Bob Thornton (BBT was Michael's drummer for 10 years prior to embarking on a career in Hollywood) features a major roster of guest artists including Billy Bob on drums and backing vocals, Skynard's Ricky Medlock, Pat Travers, ZZ Top's Dusty Hill, and Slash drops in for some tasty lead on one tune. Michael wrapped up the 2010 Voodoo Coop Tour in November. In September, Michael released RAZORBACK BOOGIE on ITunes and other internet download sites. The song pays tribute to fellow Arkansas Hog Wild fans. Sexy backing vocals by Taryn Murphy and Kimberley Dahme. Some may know Kimberley as the bass player for Boston. She also delivered huge backing vocals on the Adventures of Roosterboy CD. RAZORBACK BOOGIE is a true highpoint in the live show. Band members, Jai Lambert on bass, an Arkansas treasure and hugely talented musician. Jai holds down the low end for Michael, with some stunning bass and tasteful support for Michael's boogie man guitar. Kenny Hall, another fellow Arkansan, is a funky drummer , that is just a SOLID, big time drummer with unique skills and the ability to hold down the beat for this amazing power trio. You never know who will show to sit in with Michael. Recently, folks were treated to Black Oak Arkansas' Jim Dandy sitting in with the Roosteboy. Always a treasure when Michael & old friend Colonel Bruce Hampton end up on stage together. So...don't miss the show, and don't forget to download some Michael Shipp tunes. Stay tuned, Roosterboy Michael Shipp is always up to something in the Rooster Coop.
